Christmas isn’t always a cracker for everyone

Some of us happily prepare for Christmas; organising to see family and friends, buying presents, hanging decorations…

But for others the stress and pressure of Christmas is too much. They get pulled in different directions by family and friends…and the cracks start to appear. They are thrown together with people they may not usually see a lot of …and the tempers fray. They feel pressure on their relationships, pressure on their finances or pressure on their time…suddenly something snaps… and things can go terribly wrong.

Lifeline wants to reduce the number of men, women and children hurt or killed each year by a member of their own family. This Christmas and beyond we will be answering calls from the victims of domestic violence, putting people in touch with organisations that can help. As the campaign says “It’s not OK to look away, but it is OK to ask for help”.

Every Christmas Lifeline counsellors are available 24 hours a day 7 days a week helping to reduce the pressure of emotions for those who feel ready to snap.

With best wishes for a peaceful and happy Christmas.
