LifeLine Face-To-Face Counselling

Life is full of change!!

Sometimes there is struggle; sometimes there is a sense that we need help examining issues in our lives; sometimes there is hurt and pain and we don't know why.

Whatever the reason, LifeLine's professional counsellors are available to help. For more than forty years, LifeLine's Face-To-Face Counselling Department has provided a powerful and valuable service helping people to identify resourceful and satisfying ways of living.

LifeLine's Face-To-Face Department has a scaled system of charges where fees are negotiated with the counsellor depending on what the client can afford - although we do generally ask for a minimum contribution of $25 per session. We will not allow money to be a barrier to someone accessing quality counselling .

What you can expect from us

As a client, you can expect to be treated respectfully. Your counsellor will listen carefully and sensitively and help you to sort out how you would like things to be different.

In the first meeting with your counsellor, you will get to know each other and decide how you might work together to make the changes you choose to make. In that first meeting, your counsellor will talk to you about confidentiality and our complaints procedure and answer questions you may have about the counselling process. At the end of the first meeting, you and your counsellor should have a good idea of whether or not you want to meet again.

Most clients come once a week for about 50 to 60 minutes a session. In some cases, the counsellor you see initially may not be the appropriate person to help you. If this should happen, you will be offered someone who better matches your needs, or maybe given a referral to another practitioner or agency.

What you can expect from counselling

As you participate in the counselling process, you can begin to develop more resourceful and satisfying ways of living.

You can improve your self-awareness and self-esteem. It is quite normal for clients to experience a range of feelings while coming to counselling.

Your counsellor will be there to support you as you make the changes you choose to make. Over time, most clients report a sense of progress.

About our counsellors

Our counsellors have trained at a variety of educational institutions; they meet our agency's standards and they are supervised fortnightly by LifeLine approved supervisors.

They are all volunteers who make a minimum of three hours a week available for LifeLine clients. Some are also in private practice.

About our fees

We use an honor system where clients identify their own appropriate charges. Our fees are based on a sliding scale, with $1 for every $1000 of annual after tax family income. Fees are negotiated between counselor and clients.
