Remembering Lifeline in your Will

A Will is essential for remembering your loved ones - it gives you peace of mind as it ensures that your intentions will be carried out after you’ve gone.

Once those you love have been taken care of; many people choose to support the causes they believe in by remembering their favourite charities in their Will.

A bequest to Lifeline Auckland is your opportunity to make a significant contribution to the emotional and mental health of communities for generations to come.

Each month more than two thousand callers receive support through Lifeline Auckland  - a call to Lifeline can be literally life saving. Countless more lives have been transormed for the better through the work of Lifeline's Face to Face counsellors who support people in uncovering a way forward through life situations that can often feel totally overwhelming.

Your Will can keep Lifeline's counselling services running for future generations and is a lasting gift that serves the community for years to come - creating a ripple effect for good.

Lifeline Auckland has created a special Trust where your bequest will be protected in perpetuity - the money earned from the Trust will be distributed to Lifeline Auckland to run services in the future.

The Trust is registered with the Charities Commission (CC 27080) and is called The Lifeline Auckland Endowment Trust.

Details of the Trust including its rules and registered purposes and the names of Trustees can be viewed at the Charities Commission website

How can I make a bequest to Lifeline Auckland?

  • By leaving a residue gift. After providing for your loved ones, you can confirm that you want to leave part or all of what is left of your estate to Lifeline Auckland.
  • By leaving an agreed percentage of your estate.
  • By leaving a specific gift. This could be an amount of money, real estate, jewellery, shares, or any such other gift you nominate.

The following clause is the correct wording for a Bequest to be left to Lifeline Auckland:

I give (a specified share of the residue / or the percentage of / or a specified gift) to Lifeline Auckland for its general purposes and I declare that the receipt of the appointed officer of the Trust shall be full and sufficient discharge for the said bequest."

Next steps?

It is always best to speak with your legal advisor before making or changing your Will.

If you already have a Will you will only need to make a few changes by completing a codicil, a legal supplement to your Will that changes or amends part of it - you should contact your legal advisor to talk through your wishes.

Further information is also available through the Public Trust  which provides an overview of Wills and allows you to make a Will online.
