The broad purpose of the Scholarship is to provide opportunity for study at any New Zealand university by postgraduate students who have displayed high potential for future leadership in international affairs, in public life, as well as in private endeavour. The Scholarship is administered by Massey University but successful applicants may study at any New Zealand university judged most appropriate to the subject of their research.
Candidates should have an excellent academic record, a demonstrated capacity for leadership, and be able to show a sense of commitment towards their proposed research topic.
Recipients will receive a Scholarship of $25,000 per annum for a Doctoral degree and $15,000 per annum for a Masterate to a maximum of two years. Scholars will also receive grants for registration, tuition fees, and approved research expenses. The regulations do not permit other Scholarships to be held concurrently with the Sasakawa Scholarship and Scholars must be intending to study full time.
