Dear Friend
If you have been in to Lifeline recently you may have noticed several changes to our premises at 95 Great South Road.
A number of the administration staff together with the LivingWorks Education unit have moved out to rental premises at 109 Great South Road. They will soon be joined by a newly contracted mental health service team together with some of the other "non counselling" referral, resourcing and support services that we operate under contract on behalf of government agencies.
You may also be aware of a new service that is now operating at Lifeline - just next door to the very successful "Family Helpline 211" service. The "Family Violence Intervention Line" commenced on the 9th September as part of the government's "It's not OK" TV advertising campaign.
Each year I report on our Strategic Plan and togther with the Lifeline Board, we review our progress towards its goals and make any changes that are needed. Every four years we undertake a more extensive review for consideration by the Board for their sign off. The Board set, and "own and resource", the direction of our organisation and staff are tasked through the Chief Executive to devise an operational plan.
A team has been established to spearhead this work who are charged with a consultative approach at regular intervals with all interest groups of our organisation. This year Board Member Haddo D'Audney has facilitated a series of workshops to assist the process. The first off site session was recently held in the Board room of TelstraClear - thanks to the generosity of TelstraClear Chief Executive Dr Alan Freeth. In advance I thank you for your input to the end plan.
Best wishes

Mensline: A Rationale
by Denis Bunbury
Mensline's emergence from a period of review presents the opportunity to revisit the rationale for a dedicated men's telephone counselling line, staffed by male counsellors.
This rationale does not include a claim that women cannot be of help to men. It is plainly clear that women do offer men important counselling help, and it is also clear that often men seek the help of women in managing and progressing their emotional health...

The Mayonnaise Jar and Coffee
contributed by Bryan Wilshire
A professor stood before his philosophy class and had some items in front of him.
When the class began, wordlessly, he picked up a very large and empty mayonnaise jar and proceeded to fill it with golf balls He then asked the students if the jar was full...
