Vision Statement – Victims of Crime
“A society working together that is responsive to the needs of people affected by crime” “People affected by crime have access to information and are connected to services that can help meet their needs”.
Objectives – Victims of Crime Information Line
The 0800 Victims of Crime Information Line’s objectives are to:
• provide information about victims’ rights and available services for people affected by crime
• connect people to services when appropriate.
Our core messages are:
• People affected by crime have a right to be treated with respect for their dignity and privacy, and with courtesy and compassion. • In New Zealand, the Victims’ Rights Act 2002 sets out victims’ rights and principles for the treatment of victims of crime. • The Victims’ Charter sets out the standard of service people affected by crime can expect from government agencies. • Government agencies and community organisations are working together to provide services to people affected by crime that can help meet their needs. • If you are a person affected by crime you can call 0800 650 654 or go to www.victimsinfo.govt.nz
It is not the purpose of the Victims of Crime Information Line to provide a service for victims of events other than crime, such as victims of general trauma, medical misadventure or natural disaster. These callers should be dealt with in accordance with the standard procedures set out under ‘victims of events other than crime’.]
