What's happening at Lifeline?
By Annie Bradshaw

Our first newsletter of the year!  It seems most people vaguely remember their holiday as its business as usual once again!

The residents of 95 are already gearing up for a March intake of volunteers.  There is a brief respite between the ending of one training session and the beginning of another.  Remember, if you have a friend who might be interested in becoming a volunteer click here and get them to enrol before the 8th February!

Along the road at 109 it is frantic with preparations for the start of the Mental Health Line.  Recruitment is nearing an end and training is about to begin and with the NDI ladies and gents moving to 109, it’s all go!

Everybody.co.nz

The Everybody “Mental Health and Wellbeing” community forums are going from strength to strength and thanks to the diligent moderating skills of Lifeline’s Tracey Reynolds are proving to be a safe and well used place for people to share and support each other through mental ill health. The forums moderated by Lifeline can be viewed here.

The Everybody website won the 2007 Qantas Media Award for Best Public Information Website.

Kidsline

The new intake of 38 Kidsline Buddies is now coming towards the end of the Intake Training Programme. Over two days this week they had the chance to add to their basic skills and meet the 38 Buddies returning for their second year at Kidsline. Lots of new faces to meet and names to learn! The senior Buddies start back on the phones this coming week and the 1st years start taking their first calls in mid February.

Joey James has been the KidsLine Co-ordinator for the last two years and has now handed the reins to Sian Ellett.  Sian has been a Buddy and is part of the KRT (Kidsline Resource Team) and indeed Joey still remains part of the KRT.

Mental Health Line

The Mental Health Line recruitment has finished and we have another dozen or so people to welcome aboard.  Most of them are part-timers and the MHL will run from 3.30pm until 9am during weekdays and 24/7 during weekends and statutory holidays.

Consumers will be ringing Waitemata District Health Board after hours and the calls will be taken here.  It’s been a huge project which grew from a vision and many hours of hard work have gone into the project.  It will be incredibly satisfying for many people to see this venture become reality.  We’ll keep you posted on progress

 NDI

Our National Depression Initiative (NDI) team are moving to 109. Their much anticipated arrival is most exciting and the residents of 109 are looking forward to the onset...

First Aiders

We have two new first aiders!  Frauke Mai and Jan Lovich have completed their Medi Train First Aid courses so if you are at LifeLine and you feel you need medical attention, you’ll know who to go to.  Their photos will be placed in the respective kitchens very soon.  In the meantime here’s a photo of them!
