World Suicide Prevention Day 2026
Changing the Narrative on Suicide
This year, the theme of World Suicide Prevention Day is “Changing the Narrative on Suicide”. It’s an invitation to break the silence and stigma that can make suicide so difficult to talk about, and to create space for more open, compassionate conversations.
Behind every statistic is a real person - a friend, parent, partner, colleague, neighbour or someone in our community.

The ripple of support
In the past financial year* 40,114 calls were responded to, and 182,603 text messages were sent and received by Lifeline and Tautoko helplines from people across Aotearoa experiencing distress.
These numbers highlight the importance of Lifeline’s long-standing commitment to being there for people when they need someone to listen. And for many people who reach out, the impact of that support reaches far beyond the conversation itself - it ripples through families, friendships and communities.
It’s support that can help make ordinary moments possible: showing up for dinner, being there for a friend, returning to work, or simply getting through another day.
Moments that might have looked very different without someone there to listen.
Your support creates a ripple
And that’s why it matters.
Every donation helps create another ripple of connection, compassion and hope. Your generosity helps Lifeline be there for people when they need it most, providing a safe and confidential place where they can reach out, be heard and a find a way forward.
Together, we can help change the narrative around suicide - one conversation, one connection and one person at a time.

Will you make your support ripple today?
A donation to Lifeline can help answer the call of someone reaching out in one of their toughest moments.
When a call is answered, its impact doesn't stop with one person. A person feels heard. A friend may feel less alone. A family may know where to turn. A community can become more aware.
Your kindness can reach further than the person on the other end of the phone. It can ripple through their world.
This World Suicide Prevention Day, be part of the ripple.
Is your business ready to make a difference?
Donate $360 today and we'll send you our Lifeline Supporter Badge and email signatures.
Your donation creates two ripples at once. It funds our counsellors to answer 10 calls - reaching not just those 10 people, but their friends, families and communities.
And displaying your Lifeline Supporter Badge across your socials and emails sends a ripple through your world - your workplace, your clients, your community; showing them, clearly and publicly, that you care.
Thank you for being part of the ripple.
