Let's Wake Up to Show We Care - For the Dawn 2025

05 August 2025

This World Suicide Prevention Day (Wednesday 10 September), we’re inviting New Zealanders to come together at sunrise for a powerful show of connection, compassion, and hope.

What is For the Dawn?

For the Dawn is a nationwide event created to spark meaningful conversations about suicide prevention while raising vital funds for Lifeline Aotearoa. It’s a chance to reflect, to remember, and to remind others that it's okay to talk - all at a time of day that symbolises fresh starts and new beginnings.

Through shared sunrise moments, we honour those we've lost, support those who are struggling, and work toward a future where no one has to face their darkest moment alone.

Early Bird Incentive

The first 50 people to raise $100 through a fundraising page will receive a free Lifeline beanie as a thank you for your early action and commitment.

Here’s how:

  1. Set up your fundraising page at www.forthedawn.org.nz
  2. Be one of the first 50 to raise $100
  3. We’ll be in touch to send your beanie!

Why For the Dawn Matters

Suicide is a major public health challenge, with more than 700,000 deaths each year globally.

In New Zealand, suicide is a devastating issue that affects families and communities – on average, over 500 people lose their lives to suicide each year.

World Suicide Prevention Day is a chance to come together to reduce stigma, raise awareness, and show that help is always within reach.

At Lifeline Aotearoa, we’re here to support New Zealanders with free, confidential support via 0800 LIFELINE and the Suicide Crisis Helpline 0508 TAUTOKO. With your support, we can continue to be there when it matters most.

Together, we can ensure that no one has to face their darkest moment alone.
